ICCO in Colombia
ICCO in Colombia
In Colombia, ICCO contributes to the development and strengthening of local economies through the use of innovative models such as Manq’a schools, working with young rural entrepreneurs in different value chains and with African descent communities in the protection and sustainable use of their natural resources.
Similarly, ICCO in Colombia works with Truvalu in an agribusiness investment fund that seeks to contribute to peacebuilding in the country.
At the territorial level, ICCO’s work is concentrated in southwestern Colombia: Chocó, Valle del Cauca, Nariño, Putumayo and also in Bogotá and Guajira.
Peace Accord
In 2016, the Colombian government signed the Peace Accord with the FARC Guerrilla, one of the oldest on the continent, putting an end to more than 50 years of armed conflict that left nearly 8 million victims throughout the country. This is a historic opportunity for Colombia and for ICCO’s work in the country to connect and contribute to improving economic conditions and dignifying the living conditions of the rural population.

Manq’a
Manq'a in Colombia
“I’ve looked for oppertunities, ways to improve my life, to make a living and to study. But because of life circumstances, things didn’t work out. I had problems. I wasn’t able to do these things until I got here, at Manq’a school. Manq’a has given me the opportunity to keep growing as a person, to train as a professional. Manq’a taught me many things: to develop character, respect, teamwork and to have love or passion for what you do.” – Germo Martinez, future Colombian cook.
