ICCO in Paraguay
ICCO in Paraguay
Despite showing constant macroeconomic growth, poverty and inequality in Paraguay remain a major challenge. Children and indigenous and peasant communities are undoubtedly the most vulnerable populations in this country due to the permanent violation of their social, environmental and economic rights.
Economic opportunities
In Paraguay, ICCO develops projects defending the rights of children, indigenous people, peasants and small producers. Historically, and with the support of organizations such as Kerk In Actie, ICCO supported indigenous and peasant communities in their defense, claim and land titling processes.
Today, through the Gran Chaco program, it promotes models of agro-ecological production, commercialization and development of productive chains, generating better economic opportunities for small producers and contributing to mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Likewise, through Truvalu, ICCO is part of “Organic Paraguay”, an association that promotes agro-ecological production and access to new markets.
Our expertise
In Paraguay, ICCO supports and participates in a national organic production platform called “Paraguay Orgánico”. The objective is to promote an alternative, profitable and sustainable business through the access of small organic producers to differentiated markets. Also it aims to strengthen the value chains and strategic alliances.
At the same time, ICCO develops the program Gran Chaco. This program supports indigenous communities so they can implement productive activities in order to guarantee their economic, social, cultural and environmental rights through their economic empowerment.
Finally, the movement for the land (an initiative of ICCO, together with its partners) has systematized several cases of access to land and territory and cases of return to the countryside as a way to value the rural.
