Lindqvist called in her speech on policy makers and all stakeholders to meet the needs of small family farmers in the national development plans.

In her speech Lindqvist asked the participants on three points:

  1. The development of agro-food systems. It is important to consider the issue of food and nutrition security beyond the increase in food production, to ensure that small farmers have access to and use a varied diet, meeting standard safety criteria.
  2. The crucial role of women in the production, conservation and processing of food, particularly those intended for family consumption.
  3. The strengthening of agri-food systems through the use of more resilient production mechanisms, combining traditional and local knowledge with advanced and evidence-based technologies. She also underlined the need to encourage the emergence of local experts and work with them to combat effectively against climate change and successfully implementing sustainable agri-food systems that can lead to the achievement of the zero hunger goal (SDG 2) in 2030.
