Dutch Postcode Lottery donates 1,350,000 euros to ICCO

Since 2008, ICCO has been a beneficiary of the Dutch Lottery, a large private fund that supports NGOs working towards a fairer and greener world. Thanks to more than 3 million participants, the Postcode Lottery can make donations every year to charities in the field of people and nature. Of each ticket the Lottery sells, 45% goes to charity organizations. This year, 347 million euros went to 121 charities. An amazing contribution!

In addition to the annual institutional contribution to ICCO’s work, the Lottery also supports specific projects. For example, in 2018 ICCO received 2.8 million euros for the project Birds, Bees & Business together with Birdlife Netherlands. This project combines its support for the regeneration of biodiversity in Burkina Faso with economic development, through exploring opportunities for local producers to market shea nuts. Another project that is funded by the Lottery is “The Salt Solution”, for which ICCO received an amount of 2.1 million euros in 2017. The Salt Solution makes saline soil in Bangladesh productive again, by training 5,000 farmers to grow salt tolerant crops.

Also Cordaid received an annual institutional contribution. The reason why Cordaid and ICCO received the contributions separately, is because the contribution is derived from the Lottery’s proceeds of 2020. In that year we were still two separate organizations.

Thanks to the Postcode Lottery and its participants for the great contribution!
