New G4AW Projects in Cambodia and Indonesia
The Netherlands Space Office (NSO) has recently approved six new Geodata for Water and Agriculture (G4AW) projects, of which two involve ICCO Cooperation. ICCO is thrilled to be given more opportunities to continue improving livelihoods and the food security of farmers through a combination of innovative technology, geodata and public private partnerships.
ICCO will be the lead for the Angkor SALAD project in Cambodia and will play an important advisory role to lead organisation Verstegen Spices and Sauces, for Spice Up in Indonesia. ICCO also leads the consortia for GREENcoffee in Vietnam and SMARTseeds in Indonesia, and is involved in Geopotato in Bangladesh, making a total of five G4AW projects in the region.
Angkor SALAD, Cambodia
Through a consortium of five public and private stakeholders, this project aims to deliver services to help at least 100,000 vegetable farmers in Cambodia to increase their production, income and food security and to reduce their inputs of water, fertilizer and pesticides. ICCO has focused its programs on vegetables in Cambodia for the past five years and as such, has an extensive network of farmers and expertise related to this sector. The service will focus on five components: 1) Irrigation advice; 2) Fertilizer advice; 3) Crop planning; 4) Market information and 5) Khmer Good Agriculture Practice (GAP) compliance. An amount of € 2.3 million will be granted in total.
Spice Up, Indonesia
ICCO is one of nine consortium members in this public-private partnership with Verstegen Spices and Sauces in the lead. Spice Up aims to deliver services that help 100,000 pepper farmers increase their production, income and food security and to reduce their inputs of water, fertilizer and pesticides. The service will have four components: 1) Drought/Irrigation; 2) Fertilizer advice; 3) Good Agricultural Practices and 4) Sustainable tracing system. An amount of almost €2 million will be granted in total.
