ACT Alliance welcomes the publication of the EU interpretative notice for the correct labeling of Israeli settlement products. Its publication is an important measure towards ensuring continued, full and effective implementation of existing EU legislation and bilateral arrangements applicable to settlement products.
As member of ACT Alliance, ICCO hopes that this measure will pave the way for a more systematic implementation of EU law leading towards the complete exclusion of settlements from EU-Israel cooperation and in general stronger actions regarding Israel’s settlement policy.
ACT Alliance calls upon the EU to reintroduce the logic of international law and the rights-based approach, which was largely abandoned during the peace process. This approach needs to constantly inform the EU in all of its engagements with Israel and the Palestinians, including the provision of humanitarian and development aid.
