ICCO is excited to launch an innovative ICT-based market linkage initiative called "LOOP" in Bangladesh, in partnership with Digital Green.
LOOP is a shared transport-to-market service backed by a mobile phone application. It connects smallholder farmers to markets through local service providers who aggregate multiple farmer's harvest from the community and sell it to a market, thereby saving time and transportation cost. It not only provides direct aggregation, transport and marketing services, but also near real-time market price information and digitized, transaction records. This ensures transparency and accountability for farmer participants.
Bangladesh’s high mobile and digital financial services' penetration makes it possible to integrate ICTs to send SMS receipts, provide farmers with market recommendations and process digital payments.
This pilot initiative is being implemented in Rangpur as part of the PROOFS project, funded by Embassy of the Netherlands in Bangladesh, and implemented by ICCO, iDE, and BoP Innovation Center. For this project, we cooperate with Digital Green, an organization that empowers smallholder farmers to lift themselves out of poverty by harnessing the colletive power of technology.
