Rural development policies in general are not of priority interest to governments, and this is mainly due to a traditional look at the problems of land and agriculture, outdated and based on stereotypes. The same look is evident in the development practices of some NGOs and even in the peasant and indigenous organizations themselves.
The indigenous peasant sector is not considered as a relevant player in rural development. Nevertheless, the role of the land is increasingly important as:
- Production assets for agro-export of monocultures on a large scale (hoarding, speculation),
- Element of universal and essential importance in the life of indigenous people and peasants for sustainable family production and food security.
Effective interventions by organizations and cooperation, shows that public policies require a new and inspiring rural approach to channeling a renewed public agenda on land and rural development.
