Accelerating the Myanmar Mung bean Value Chain
ICCO Cooperation (ICCO) in collaboration with Myanmar Government’s Department of Agricultural Research (DAR), Evers Specials B.V. (...
Over four years of implementation in both agricultural development, research and agribusiness that the project has strong imprint with seed production and quality crop production, in value chain development at large scale by Radanar Ayar Rural Development Association together with international large donors such as LIFT Fund and USAID. Also, there are proven records of achievements among farmers of growing the agricultural products under project's technical support, supervision and village-based revolving systems created for sustainable and profitable production. Although the productivity and quality of production is improving, as on market aspect, there are still challenges for farmers receiving proper and guarantee price on their products. The prices of black-gram as winter crop are influenced by many factors such as product shortage, market demands (including export market) and quality when much favor in irrigated lands from Paungde of Bago West (Pyay) Region. The main buyer from India for export at large scale and some portion of local consumption.
After consulting with ICCO Cooperation, Radanar Ayar realizes that there is a new market segment for farmers and an opportunity to link the farmers directly with the market using value-chain approaches. By means of direct trading between sellers and buyers, no more transactional costs and lost will be incurred and the farmers can have better and guarantee prices for their products in larger cooperation through mega-partnerships with both public and private sectors for the best interest of farmers.
