The Nigeria Joint Response 2021 supports lifesaving activities and alleviates suffering of Host Communities, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons ...
Nigeria has been confronted with multiple security challenges and has been suffering greatly since the Boko Haram insurgency began in 2009. The violence has displaced more than two million people, an estimated 1.8 million of whom are currently internally displaced. The conflict between Boko Haram and military forces in the northeast of Nigeria has escalated to directly affect some 15 million people. More than 20,000 people have been killed and an estimated 4,000 women and girls have been abducted since the conflict began eleven years ago.
Since 2015, ICCO has provided Humanitarian Aid in northeast Nigeria, in Borno State, together with 5 Dutch NGOs as part of the Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA). This program is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and promotes food security and prevents and treats malnutrition, improved access to safe drinking water and sanitation and hygiene and offers protection and psychosocial support to women and children. ICCO delivers its Humanitarian Response together with its (local) partners Christian Aid, Jeridoo Foundation (JDF) and Justice Development Peace & Health Programme (JDPH).
