Through this project ACT Alliance member Lutheran World Federation (LWF) will support crisis-affected communities in Central African Republic (CAR) through an integrated program including Food security, Wash, and Protection activities. The program activities will be implemented in 2 priority areas: Ouham & Ouham-Pende provinces.
The activities will include:
- Food Security: school feeding, establishment of school and community gardens, distribution of tools & seeds, agricultural training,
- Protection: train youth as peace ambassadors, organize awareness raising on peaceful co-existence, radio broadcasts,
- Wash: construction of boreholes/water sources, latrine construction, and training of water management committees.
The children in schools are the first entry point for implementation of the program, and from there involving the whole community through community-based approaches.
The program contributes to building stronger and more resilient communities through the reduction of food insecurity and malnutrition in school-attending children, improving access to water and latrines, as well as enhancing social cohesion in Ouham and Ouham Pendé provinces.
Short background: Central African Republic (CAR) suffers from a complex crisis. The crisis started in December 2012 when fighting broke out between armed factions leading to overthrowing of the government in May 2013. Currently, after more than five years of conflict, an estimated 2,7 million people or more than half of the population are in need of humanitarian assistance.
This program is funded by a contribution from Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA), as well as by a contribution from our own Kerk in Actie funds.
