Building on the Strengthening civil societys role in the peace process in Kayah State project, this phase II Karenni Public Participation in Peace Process (K-4P) project aims to realize a more in-depth understanding of key peace needs of the people in Karenni (Kayah) State. It aims to inform more than 64 villages and wards about the peace process, the role of the people themselves as well as others, and it also aims to bring in-depth understanding of the issues in Karenni state to the different peace process key actors in Karenni State, namely the Government of Myanmar and the Karenni State Hluttaw and Government, Karenni Ethnic Armed Organisations and their administrative arms, CSOs and communities, for action on key peace issues and supporting peace. Similar to its predecessor, the project is directly related to Karennis pending signing of the national ceasefire agreement and the political dialogue that would then follow. The project team seeks to be a conduit for peace process information sharing in Karenni State, seeking to gather information from villagers on peace needs but also share information on the peace process and their potential to contribute to this in a manner and language that is beneficial to the people. The project also aims to contribute directly to the peace process by advocating and lobbying with peace process key stakeholders and making them aware of the issues at the grassroots level through delivering "peace stories", a peace film and following up on peace on the ground by regularly conducting peace surveys and spreading the findings. The project is very focused on empowering villagers by working with active and enthusiastic individuals (this project address them as 'Peace Champions') to inform and enlighten people in 64 villages and wards in Karenni about the peace process and also by enabling people on the ground to input into the peace process by gathering peace stories, by monitoring progress on peace through a participatory peace survey and by developing numerous information/film/visual materials to disseminate in villages as well as upwards to the State and Union key peace actors. To enable CSOs and PCs to disseminate information on the peace process and to gather stories and surveys and develop it into useful materials, the project will start off with several Skills & Technical trainings for both the 5 CSOs as well as 80 PCs.
