Manqa Gastronomic School 2018 – Cali

In Colombia, disadvantaged youth from socially problematic neighborhoods will be trained as qualified cooks to promote healthy, traditional and local cuisine. By doing so, the demand for organic and local food will increase and small farmers in the area will receive more money/fair prices for their products. As the result, disadvantaged youth will have the opportunity to find jobs as qualified cooks or work as entrepreneurs. As well, local consumers will have access to affordable/healthy food.

Manqa in Aguablanca - Cali is a program integrateing an ICCO bigger country program related to Manqa schools. This ICCO program is funded by the RVO, that covers a percentage of the operations of Cali Manqa schools. As well it involves the participation of other Dutch organizations such as: Generous Minds and Just Nuts.

This project is a very important way for youngsters to build personal, technical and entrepreneur capacities at different levels related to its culture and also to knowledge and practice, using and promoting local Colombian gastronomic products, delivered by local organizations.

CECAN is a local NGO promoting for the past 28 years integral human development processes for children, adolescents and for vulnerable groups, such as working women. The foundation is located in the Antonio Narino neighborhood (in the district of Aguablanca in Cali Colombia). The action has been developed through experiences and practices exchange and also pedagogical and entrepreneurial experiences exchanges. CECAN has benefit people of Cali who have found sustainable economic practices and have reach social and economic empowerment.
