This project aims at self-employment among young rural farming households in five villages of in the Issyk-Kul region, one of the regions of Kyrgyzstan. ICCO Cooperation supports local communities in remote villages in their initiatives of building sustainable value chains for organic products. Organic farming addresses the basic needs of rural farmers and gives the rural population the opportunity to elevate the living standards. And it encourages the use of at hand and natural tools in farming

It was planned to not only contribute higher prices for organic products and lower costs of inputs but also to improve the environmental and health conditions of the farmers. It depends on different conditions whether organic farming can increase current yields up to 20-30% followed by an increase of the income of the farmers. The project will support the certification and promotion of the selected villages. The products will be marketed under the brand of “Organic Aymak”. Practice shows that the concept of organic aymak motivates farmers to achieve a common goal and to improve their cooperation. The proposed setup boosts the farmers to specialize and to increase their farming knowledge and provides them access to local and international markets. The producers of Organic Aymaks will be linked with traders and processors to establish a stable market.

Future plans
The main partner of ICCO is Bio-KG Federation of Organic Development who invites farmers, manufacturers, and potential buyers of organic, natural and environmentally friendly products to participate in the annual exhibition fair of organic products. During their general meetings, the village councils decided to join the organic agriculture. ICCO facilitated in conducting trainings on organic farming, cattle artificial insemination, village administration capacity building, tools and seeds for artificial insemination. Currently, there are greenhouses under construction and also drip irrigation will be introduced soon. Farmer groups were identified and organized and they set up a database of farmers.
