PROSANUT is a project that aims to tackle the very persisting problem of food and nutrition insecurity in Burkina Faso. This problems remains a reality for the majority of populations living in rural areas in West Africa. ICCO-Cooperation in collaboration with its partners (Europeans and locals) has decided to act, and provide a solution to this growing concern in the West African Region. The project will focus on Burkina Faso, since the problem of food and nutrition insecurity is severe there

The work of PROSANUT is part of the work of the SAN Coalition in Burkina Faso and that of ICCO-Cooperation at European level. Implemented in 2011 by two Dutch NGOs, ICCO and WOORD EN DAAD, the SAN Coalition brings together 8 national NGOs specializing in food security and nutrition, including the African Network for the Right to Food (RAPDA) and International Baby Food Action Network (IBFAN) have regional and international ramifications.

The members of the Coalition pursue common objectives in order to improve the food and nutritional security of the poor and vulnerable populations of Burkina Faso, as defined in the Coalition's strategic plan for 2012-2021. In addition to the involvement of 6 of its members, according to their respective experiences and expertise, in implementing the proposed action, the SAN Coalition will develop a national advocacy strategy on land issues, Debates on Law 034 on land tenure arrangements organized in the 53 villages benefiting from the action. On the basis of this work and that carried out by ICCO's Food Security and Nutrition Coalitions in Benin and Mali, ICCO will organize a sub-regional workshop in 2014 bringing together the members of these three coalitions to develop a strategy under -regional advocacy on the factors of food insecurity related to land. This work will feed into that of ICCO at European level, notably within the framework of CONCORD, in which ICCO is the President of the Food Security Group.

PROSANUT affects one of the poorest regions of the country, with a harsh climate and poor soils (local cereals yields between 500 and 600 kg / ha), where agriculture is mainly rainfed, with poorly trained, poorly organized populations And not sufficiently technically accompanied. This is why the province of intervention has a poor and very poor household rate of 69% (HEA), explaining the problems of malnutrition experienced (Interim data from the SMART survey October 2012: Acute malnutrition rate from 10 , 6 in 2011 to 12.2 in 2012 in the Northern Region).

The action is in line with the country's priorities, such as the National Food Security Strategy (SNSA), the Accelerated Growth and Sustainable Development Strategy (SCADD).
