ACJ-YMCA is a youth Christian and ecumenical organization that has worked since its foundation (1990) with young people and impoverished communities, promoting capacities and skills for the improvement of their livelihoods in Nicaragua. Since 2010 ACJ has been accompanying the indigenous communities of the Pacific (Veracruz del Zapotal, Rivas and Sutiaba, Leon).
ACJ NIC has been a local partner participating in the program More opportunities, More rights for youth in Guatemala and Nicaragua, financed by Kerk in Actie since 2016. The program is aimed to strengthening social leadership among indigenous youths in Guatemala and Nicaragua from a gender sensitive, rights-based and cultural pertinent approach. The program focuses in the following main lines of action: a) economic empowerment; b) lobby, advocacy and political participation; and c) violence prevention.
With their previous project implemented in the 2016-2017 ACJ-NIC aimed to building capacities in young people to strengthen youth organizations and generate skills and abilities to carry out community actions that foster a culture of good living, focusing on violence prevention.
