This project builds capacities in young people to strengthen youth organizations and generate skills and abilities to carry out community actions that foster a culture of good living, focusing on violence prevention. It is part of a program developed in Nicaragua and Guatemala to promote opportunities for indigenous and afrodescendant youths, with the financial support of Kerk in Actie (KIA).

The majority of the members of the Sutiaba Indigenous People settled in Leon (Western Nicaragua), live in the urban areas of this municipality. There are 125 Sutiaba communities with an estimated total population of 52,208 people. 27% of them are young and the most of them (70%) are members of a community organization.

Sutiaba youths play an active role in the development of their communities. The local organization, Christian Association of Youths (ACJ), work with them with the support of ICCO and Kerk in Actie, to generate more opportunities and empowerment for indigenous youths.
