Youth Empowerment and Inclusion in Guatemala

  • Asociación Cristiana de Jóvenes- Guatemala

This project is part of the Civic Engagement Alliance Program, and is its Youth Empowerment and Social Inclusion chapter for Guatemala, which is implemented by ICCO Cooperation, CNV International, with the support of Wilde Ganzen and in partnership with the local organization ACJ. The project encourages the development of a favorable environment where the voices and demands of youths influence both, the formulation of public policies and a political and economic life in Guatemala.

Youths in Guatemala, particularly indigenous youth, face many challenges to access basic services and opportunities such as quality education and participation in decision making spaces. Even though they constitute an important porcentage of the population, they are often excluded from development processes and are marginalized because of their ethnic, social and economic status.

To promote the participation of Guatemalan youth, the consortium of international organizations developing this project, ICCO, CNV International and Wilde Ganzen, work with the Christian Youth Association (ACJ), a local organization with vast experience on advocacy and violence prevention projects in favor of indigenous youths.
