FCA Humanitarian aid to crisis-affected communities in CAR

In this humanitarian response in the Central African Republic ICCO&Kerk in Actie collaborate with ACT Alliance member Finn Church Aid (FCA). This program contributes to building stronger and more resilient communities through the income generating activities for families, improving access to water and latrines, as well as enhancing social cohesion in Ouham Pendé province.

Background

Through this project ACT Alliance member Finn Church Aid (FCA) will support crisis-affected communities in Central African Republic (CAR) through an program with Food Security, Wash, and Protection activities. The program activities will be implemented in priority area Ouham-Pende province.
The activities will include:
Food Security: income generating activities for 7 Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs): 84 PTA-members
Wash: construction of water sources, latrine construction, training of water management committees, and awareness raising in 3 World Vision sites and 7 FCA sites, reaching 5000 people through 10 water sources/boreholes and 1000 through latrines.
Protection: train 14 teachers and 42 PTAs in peace education and organize awareness raising activities in 7 schools reaching 520 people in total
The children in schools and Child Friendly Spaces (3 of them run by World Vision) are the first entry point for implementation of the program, and through the involvement of PTAs the whole community will be involved.
The program contributes to building stronger and more resilient communities through the reduction of food insecurity for school-attending children, improving access to water and latrines, as well as enhancing social cohesion through peace education in Ouham Pendé provinces.
Short background: Central African Republic (CAR) suffers from a complex crisis. The crisis started in December 2012 when fighting broke out between armed factions leading to overthrowing of the government in May 2013. Currently, after more than five years of conflict, an estimated 2,7 million people or more than half of the population are in need of humanitarian assistance.
This program is funded by a contribution from Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Dutch Relief Alliance (DRA), as well as by a contribution from our own Kerk in Actie funds.

70 wash committee members will be trained and involved in the project through the 10 reached schools/locations with wash.
