Content Research and Engagement Officer

ICCO is an international non-governmental organisation founded in 1964 in the Netherlands and implements programmes with partners in Central, Eastern and Southern Africa since the 1980s. The Content Research and Engagement Officer is responsible for improving the visibility of the organisation within the framework of our strategy. To fight poverty and injustice we need improved visibility to: mobilize resources, raise awareness and effectively lobby and advocate for issues relating to our programs. This Officer will also assist in writing concept notes/proposals and developing documents for use to donors.

He/she reports to the Country Manager and works in a multidisciplinary team and in direct collaboration with the program staff, including EU volunteers.

The Content Research and Engagement Officer will be responsible for research, writing, editing, fact-checking, designing presentations, visualisations and documents, adapting and rewriting.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Create content campaigns that align with the organisation’s vision and goals.
  • Design our advocacy messages and materials, and support and develop materials for conferences and meetings.
  • Produce, edit and customize content for all our platforms, including our website, LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.
  • Pitch articles for donors and publication, presentations for meetings.
  • Support in writing program development documents to donors and partners.
  • Perform online and on the ground primary research for blog posts, articles, guides and other content.
  • Make, collect and select quality information, adjusting it to the goals and tune it to suitable communication material for the target group and increased visibility in the region.
  • Deliver quality information and communication material serving public support activities by the GO (including fundraising), targeting the general public, congregations, private funds, equity funds and other (institutional) target groups.
  • Suggest creative ways to use social media to increase visibility.
  • Establish contacts and sources to use in future research.

Requirements

  • BSc degree in creative writing, journalism, mass communication or related field
  • Min. 2 years freelance or agency writing experience
  • Experience in proposal development and evidence of that
  • At least 2 years of experience in advocacy
  • Written any research or case study before
  • Experience in (online) writing and knowledge of content marketing
  • Good knowledge of the social, economic and political situation in the region and local communication methods.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication and organizational skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and demonstrate experience with impact stories, reports and interviews
  • A good command of English; and knowledge of French would be an added advantage
